Smallman Street is Being Renovated with Efforts of Multiple Parties

McCaffery Interests will be refurbishing the Produce Terminal Building to transform it into new stores, restaurants and offices.  McCaffery will perform work on behalf of the City and State to improve public realm elements including the sidewalks, ADA ramps, stairs, street lights, and curb elements on the north side of Smallman Street.

McCaffery will also be doing construction concurrently on the building at 1600 Smallman Street to convert it into ground level retail with offices above and create an adjacent new parking structure, including construction of the new ADA ramps, sidewalks, stairs and curbs associated with this block (16th -17th Street).  

Produce Terminal Schedule:

Commence Construction: March 2019

Substantial Completion- 16th-17th Street: December 2019

Substantial Completion- 17th to 18th Street: December 24, 2019

Substantial Completion- 18th-20th Streets: January 25, 2020

Substantial Completion- 20th to 21st Streets: August 2, 2020

1600 Smallman Schedule:

Commence Construction: March 2019

Main Building and Below Grade Parking: April 5, 2020

Parking Garage and Retail Delivery: June 2, 2020

Project Substantial Completion: June 2, 2020

The current fence line will be pushed closer to the Produce Terminal once PWSA completes their work and two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Smallman during the construction.

The City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) is responsible for the roadway itself, crosswalks, signage, and the sidewalks, curbs and plazas on the south side of the street between 17th and 21st Streets.
